After an incident

Marine damage reports, Solent, Hampshire and the south coast

Independent damage surveys for yachts and motorboats after an incident, in the Solent, Southampton, Portsmouth, the Isle of Wight and the south coast. Fast attendance and reports your insurer will accept.

On your side

The surveyor your insurer sends is working for them. I work for you, which usually makes for a better outcome.

Proper documentation

Photos, measurements, a full damage schedule and repair recommendations, in a form the claims handlers actually read.

There quickly

I can usually get to the boat within a few days anywhere around the Solent.

Follow-up on the repair

If you want, I'll come back after the yard's finished to check the work before you sign it off.

When it’s worth calling one in

Grounding, collision, storm damage, fire, theft, vandalism: whatever’s happened, your insurer will send their own surveyor. He or she is working for the insurance company, not you. Having someone in your corner gives you:

  • An honest read on how bad it actually is.
  • Something to point at when the proposed settlement or repair spec looks light.
  • A proper record of the boat and the incident, in case the claim gets messy later.
  • Someone to talk to the insurer’s surveyor on equal terms.

What I do

  • Get to the boat quickly, so I can document everything while it’s still fresh.
  • Write it up properly: photos, damage schedule, likely cause where I can pin it down, and what the repair should involve.
  • Talk to your insurer and their surveyor to agree the scope of works.
  • Come back after the repair if you’d like, so you have independent confirmation the yard has done the job before you accept it.

Where I go

Anywhere around the Solent, Southampton Water, the Hamble, Portsmouth Harbour, the Isle of Wight, Lymington, Beaulieu and Chichester Harbour, usually within a few days. Further afield if needed, though there’ll be travel on top.

Cost

I quote damage reports one by one because the work varies so much. Drop me a line with a short note on what’s happened and where the boat is, and I’ll come back with a fee and when I can be there.
