Nick Palmer BSc (Hons), MIIMS. Independent marine surveyor, based in Hampshire, working out of the Solent. Member of the International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS), British Marine Surveyors Europe (BMSE), the Yacht Designers & Surveyors Association (YDSA) and the RYA.

• Southampton and Southampton Water: Ocean Village, Shamrock Quay, Kemp’s Quay, Saxon Wharf, Hythe.
• Hamble River: Port Hamble, Mercury, Universal, Swanwick, Hamble Point.
• Portsmouth and Gosport: Haslar, Gosport Marina, Royal Clarence, Port Solent, Portsmouth Harbour.
• Isle of Wight: Cowes Yacht Haven, Shepards, East Cowes, Yarmouth, Bembridge.
• West Solent and New Forest: Lymington Yacht Haven, Berthon, Beaulieu River, Bucklers Hard.
• Chichester and Sussex: Chichester Marina, Emsworth, Northney, Sparkes, Birdham Pool.
• Further afield: Poole, Weymouth, Brighton and beyond by arrangement. Travel goes on top.

What I do

• Pre-purchase surveys for people buying a boat.
• Insurance surveys in the form the UK insurers want.
• Damage reports when something’s gone wrong and you want someone in your corner.
